Almost half a year has passed since I came to Toronto. It gets extremely cold here in the winter. To be honest, I can’t stand this weather anymore because sometimes it is below minus 10 degrees Celsius and it’s difficult to walk around. However, I’m getting used to living here and enjoying my life with my host family and friends. Last semester, I took the i-TESOL course which taught me how to teach English to students. I had opportunities to learn about teaching skills, such as observing classes and giving teaching demonstrations. Here is a picture taken during one of my classes. Teaching English only in English was challenging, but I am pretty sure that it will help me in my future career. I learned many things in this course, such as how to motivate students and give clear instructions. I believe it is important to have a variety of teaching skills.
During my vacation, I stayed in Brazil for 10 days. I visited Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro mainly at my previous roommate’s house. Overall, the trip was awesome. I learned about different cultures and visited many interesting places. This is the “Se Cathedral” in Sao Paulo.
As you can see, the church is huge, and I saw the statue of Saint Mary inside. Christianity is the most popular religion in Brazil. This is the famous symbol of Rio de Janeiro called “Christ the Redeemer.”
It was a very impressive statue. You can see this statue of Jesus Christ everywhere because it stands on Corcovado Mountain. This place is called “Pao de Acucar.” Two cable cars connect to the summit, 395m above Rio. I saw a beautiful scenery from there.
